Invisalign or Braces: What’s Best for You?

According to Dr. Janet Stoess-Allen of Park Avenue Orthodontics in New York City, “I have found that Invisalign has had such great improvements in their material and their optimized attachments to create specific movements of the teeth, that I am able to treat most every single type of orthodontic patient.”
For example, Dr. Stoess-Allen has especially noticed these improvements for patients with large anterior open bites. “I am able to make all of their orthodontic corrections even more efficiently than I could ever have achieved using braces,” she says. “In fact, it has always been customary for this type of patient to be treated by having four permanent teeth extracted. Now, we do not need to extract teeth at all and actually provide a better final result than we could ever have achieved using braces alone.”
In addition to being more comfortable, Invisalign also provides patients with lasting results. “Because Invisalign aligners fit the teeth like a glove instead of braces being attached to a single point contact on each tooth, I am able to more efficiently move all of the teeth using Invisalign,” Stoess-Allen points out. “In all of the orthodontic malocclusions (improper bites) that we see, I have found that the final results using Invisalign in comparison to braces, is comparable but Invisalign patients tend to have excellent results that are more stable.”
