What are Damon® Braces?

  • What are Damon® Braces?

Damon® Braces are self-ligating braces that are top of the line. Light active wires, which are much more comfortable for the patient, are used with Damon® Braces. NYC orthodontist Dr. Janet Stoess-Allen uses Damon® Braces to correct the teeth of both children and adults in order to prevent bigger problems in the future.

  • How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time varies on a patient-by-patient basis. The self-ligating wire system shortens the duration of having braces on your teeth. The light continuous forces help to eliminate time in treatment by anywhere from 3–6 months.

  • What is the difference between Damon® Braces and Invisalign® braces?

Damon® Braces are orthodontic brackets that stay on your teeth. The alternative to Damon® Braces are removable clear aligners that move the teeth, known as Invisalign®. NYC orthodontist Dr. Janet Stoess-Allen can perform both treatments at her Manhattan office.

  • Will my teeth hurt after Damon® Braces are fitted?

There will be some slight pain as is the case with any type of tooth movement, which will cause some soreness. It is best to take some Motrin and eat soft foods when your teeth are sore.

  • What are the advantages and benefits unique to Damon® braces?

Damon® braces produce a light continuous force, there is no friction between the wire and the teeth, and they allow the teeth to move more gently, instead of the heavier forces produced by traditional braces.
